Questions and Answers

What is Coaching?

Coaching is an empowered relationship, where the coach, through powerful questions, heightened listening, and other coaching skills to guide the coachee through his or her best path. We work on achieving goals, changing perspectives when you feel stuck, identifying your strengths, weaknesses, missions, values, and mindsets, and even exploring emotions that you might need to clear to move forward. In all coaching, we work on and with the whole person.

Imagine a relationship with someone who will absolutely tell you the truth—the truth about where you are strong, for example, and where you sell yourself short—someone who knows you can handle it and knows that’s what you want. Someone who sees how big you can be and constantly holds that big image for you—even when you can’t hold it for yourself.

how is it different from therapy?

Are you looking to sort through issues from your past to understand life and get to a more functional, liveable place? You might be an excellent candidate for therapy.

Unlike therapy, coaching focuses less on the “why” and more on what’s possible. With Time for Change Enterprises, you’ll work in and with the present to expand your already full life, find balance, and achieve your goals for the future.

Some clients find they can benefit from both therapy and coaching simultaneously. If you think coaching might be right for you at this time, schedule a complimentary chemistry session and check it out.

How is it different from Consulting?

In all the definitions of consulting, you’ll find one very crucial word: “advice.” In the process of our coaching relationship, we will find answers, solutions, and directions to get you where you want to go - but all of them will come from you and our work together, not from me telling you what to do or from me leveraging my connections. What we do leverage is my trained skillset of listening at the highest level - hearing what you tell me as well what you’re not saying - being incredibly flexible and present in the moment, using my well-honed intuition, and asking powerful questions to get to the heart of what you need.

If you can see your path laid out in front of you step by step, you know it’s not your path. Your own path you make with every step you take. That’s why it’s your path.
— Joseph Campbell

Can you give me some advice?

In the process of our coaching relationship, we will find answers, solutions, and directions to get you where you want to go - but all of them will come from you and from our work together - not from me telling you what to do. If you’re here looking for a parent, you may not have yet realized your own strength and potential. If you’re here looking for a powerful guide and teammate, you’ve come to the right place.

What is co-Active Coaching?

Using the co-active model, I’ll focus on you as a whole person, together with your individual goals - both how you want to show up as a person (being), and the actions you decide to take (doing). I really believe in the CTI framework, including knowing that my clients are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. I don’t think you’re broken, and I will hold you as someone who’s capable of achieving your best. We work in relationship, in each moment, fully present, toward transformation and evolution to help you live your best life.

The best way to understand the powerfully unique style of Co-active coaching is to sign up for a complimentary chemistry session and experience it for yourself.

Who do you coach?

I love working with anyone who wants to improve their relationship with change, who wishes to make a greater impact on themself and the people around them by expanding their life. In this way, I feel called to help and create changemakers in the world. Because of this, I also feel compelled to work with clients in technology and those wanting to make a difference as we begin to face climate change.

As an opera singer, I also have a dedicated group of artists who benefit from my experience as a freelance performer, as well as the Co-Active model of coaching in which I'm trained. I believe that model is incredibly useful for anyone navigating the uncertainties, pressures, and changes that can come with living the life of an artist or freelancer.

what’s your story?

I come with over 20 years of experience performing classical vocal music (usually opera), as a soloist and in groups, from churches to temples, to Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera. I've made a career out of the uncertain, and I had to teach myself how to thrive and become more resilient, open-minded, flexible, and happy as a freelancer. It was serious work, and I keep learning every day.

I've confronted my very real fears and depression and since then - I ran a marathon, sang nude in front of audiences of thousands, skydived, traveled to Fiji (my dream vacation), won awards for my short film, Stealing Zen (screenwriter, actor), eliminated chest pains and significantly reduced my cholesterol and triglycerides through diet and exercise, etc. I continue to expand my boundaries, and I’m writing a book to help others practice leaning outside their comfort zones to live an even more fulfilling life.

What happens in a session?

what happens in a chemistry session?

Our intro sessions are designed to give you a taste of what it’s like to have an empowered coaching experience and relationship. It gives us both a chance to see what happens when we join forces in the service of your goals. We’ll discuss coaching, design our best way of working together, and have a brief session. During that session, we’ll work on whatever you’d like to tackle - or I’ll guide you through an exercise designed to help you identify which areas of your life you’d like to improve, and we can go from there.

can we meet in person?

In most circumstances, coachings take place over the phone and occasionally via video conferencing (we can design this together). However, if you are in NYC during the time of a session and want to meet in person, let me know. There may be an additional cost if I need to book a space or block off available coaching time for travel.

what else do you do?

Do you teach Voice Lessons/coachings?

Not at this time. This is for transformational coaching, only. Thank you for your interest.

Do you teach group workshops?

Yes. I teach workshops on the following topics:

  • How to overcome your fears in public

  • How to bring your best self to an audition

  • Getting comfortable with the uncertainty of freelancing

  • Navigating transitions and change

  • Becoming your own best ally (how to tame your inner voices)

  • How to add mystery to your life

  • Literally blind dating

  • Vulnerability and overcoming fear

I consider myself a stoic person, and Abby’s workshop on vulnerability and overcoming fear brought me to tears. It was an incredibly cathartic experience in which I shared intimate stories and deep emotions with people I had just met. I highly recommend it - I ended up learning a lot about myself and my insecurities, and afterwards felt powerful and connected.
